Notes
Dark red 'unboxed' Decca label with silver lettering; full frequency range recording 'ffrr' 'ear' logo.
The label design differs in many UK parallel editions:
- On this release the font used is more narrow than usual; the matrix number is in parenthesis, inverted above the cat.# and below J/T code;
- The GEMA caption has no full stops in between the characters;
- Side indication on the labels on the right hand side of the spindle hole.
Released in a laminated gatefold sleeve and with a red-coded generic Decca polylined inner sleeve.
We are deeply indebted to Nicky Hopkins Hopkins and to many friends

Edited 9 months agoI have the 1st variant. For a fold (except for Sympathy) it sound great. It was amazingly clear and without the muffled sound you can find on many folds. Stray Cat Blue is incredibly punchy among others that were similarly so. I know the stereo is the way to go and the 2003 with the speed adjustment but this really surprised me and is a great separate listen.

Great sound for a great album : excellent dynamic , every instrument can be hear distinctly !
It is better to listen it with mono cartridge ! -

Great sound - super punchy and well worth picking up a copy of found cheaply enough. Discogs prices are crazy for this but can still be found at “affordable” prices in record stores if you look hard enough.

Sympathy For the devil sounds better than all of the other tracks on the original mono release, which makes sense, given it's the only track to be given a true mono mix for this album (due to the stereo mix being out of phase).

All early copies I’ve seen of this have A fully laminated sleeve. I found one today - mid 70s stereo UK version - with an unlaminated sleeve. Is this unusual or have I just missed them in the past. Any info out there?

Edited 5 years agoI`ve got a question to my version of this record. The labels have the "boxed Decca"-logo, but on the sleeve there`s a "Patents Pending" and the Garrod and Lofthouse-sleeve.
Stereo SKL 4955.
Thanks in advance,

Edited 4 years agoI have a first orig stereo UK import London label-which is not listed here, the best stereo sounding version. However not to compare it with the orig mono.
Cheers.
