Edited 2 years agowhile this is one of the better ones of the new japanese reissues, it still has inner groove distortion issues, especially with sibilants. however, i got the 2009 UK press and compared it to this and the original UK CD, and this is easily the worst. the original UK CD is in-your-face rock n roll, the 2009 vinyl is the most immersive and 'audiophile' of them (comparatively, of course), while this japanese press from the 2014 remaster just sounds congested. only keeping this for now cos it looks nice and i've got the rest of this set.
listening system: rega p3, ortofon mc quintet black cartridge, stein music 'the perfect interface' carbon mat, liberty b2b-1 preamp, hegel h95 integrated amp, elac debut b5 speakers. -
This is a loud album. Punchy too. Little noisy between tracks. 2/3rds of it sounds great. 1/3 of it could be better for a limited Japanese pressing like this, imo. For example, sibilance on the inner tracks as reported by others here. But I’ve never listened to this on vinyl before this, so what do I know?

Cool collectors item but I can't say it sounds great. Some of the tracks sound outstanding; Slide Away, Supersonic, Columbia, Up in the Sky. But there is too much high end with a digital distortion thing going as if the gain was cranked a notch too high, very noticeable on Noel's guitar on Shakermaker and Bring it on Down. Cigarettes and Alcohol sounds like a radio rip; brickwalled to all hell. Sibilance on Live Forever and Sad Song. It's all pressed a bit hot. Mids and lows sound outstanding. Decent soundstage. These 2016 remasters can't be shelved fast enough. Original and 2009 pressings are still the ones to have, but you can't beat the QC with these Japanese pressings barring the actual sound. I still think the Time Flies Japanese pressing sounds pretty good though.

I don't know what the others are listening to, but this sounds terrible, as does the masterplan. I haven't listened to be here now or morning glory but they can't be much better.
