This press still sounds so good - a full rich sound. Excellent example of what was possible back in the late 80's with what - by today's standards - would be minimal kit. Maximum invention & imagination though - & that's the key. Manchester sure was huming with creativity in that mid-late 80's period.

Obviously acid house forerunners in the UK, but Narcossa has to be one of the first true european techno tracks (separate from the EBM/New Beat sound), this one track has more Detroit feeling to it.

A beautiful pressing of a stone-cold classic. Richard James did such an excellent job of recreating this, placing entire tracks on one side at 33 RPM -- when played on the right system these songs create a sonic boom. I used to play this in the clubs in 1999 when this Rephlex version first came out and it would shatter windows and blow minds even being over a decade old at the time, and as I revisit it here in 2024 the album still holds all the bowel-quaking power it had back in 1988 when it first released. One of the most essential acid house releases in history, and this is the pressing you want.

''Flow Coma'' is an acid trance track 5-6 years ahead of its time, like those German acid trance tracks from 1993-1994. ''Trance'' music style didn't even exist before 1993, and this track is on the same style as ''Hardfloor - Aerience 1''.
I bet Hardfloor influenced by ''Flow Coma'' track on the process of making ''Aerience'' as they are both so similar tracks.
The rest tracks of ''Newbuild'' album are typical ''acid house'' style from 1988 though, but ''Flow Coma''..........

An unbelievable pressing and with so many acid vibes, that started a music journey for 808 state. A true classic album and must have. Also an album you will not find on iTunes / Spotify etc. Youtube, CD or Vinyl are the only places you will find it.

This is one of those albums that seems to be criminally underrated through the years. I heard this in 1988, 16 years old, and my life changed forever. This was the most alien music I'd ever heard, and it still holds up today. I would easily put this in the top 20 greatest electronic albums ever produced, and that is not an overreaction -- this record is just that good.

A masterpiece - pure and simple. Still sounds fresh today and you can't say that about many albums from this era. Everything was downhill from here.
