What i do is Remaster Classic Mixes in Ableton, these days software is powerfull enough to master these mixes. Afterwards i use a compressor to remove clipping and encode the mix to the right ammount of dB.
I case of the classic tracks i use my own when i have it, convert them to wav
If they dont feel right i throw them in ableton, compressor etc... so they sound right for my ears ;)
