Substance & Vainqueur as Scion. When you work at Hard Wax, listen to all these genres of music, listen to Mark Ernestus, Moritz von Oswald, all these experiences in clubs such as Tresor. To bring and to bring out this kind of raw and fresh energy in a record, that is the result of these Chain Reaction originators. That is of course one of labels build the real Berlin Techno and it is and was so essential for Berlin and the culture.
You can hear it, you can feel it. -
Edited 3 years agoThis was the birth of Chain Reaction and what a kickoff !? Innovative timeless sound that set standards. To me Emerge2 is one of the most powerful and universal tracks ever made.

Emerge 1 is a track that drills into your head from the first beat. No nonsense, straight punch to the gut house varietal of the finest ilk.

Edited 8 years agoNo getting over how sick this one is, a proper introduction to the series as well as the next logical step to follow the bet placed by Basic Channel. While you can hear Substance and Vainqueur's individual styles, it merges into one statement: 'Emerge'.
The A side remains one of the defining statements of dub techno minimalism: nothing happens, simply a hard, metallic sequence and intense bass with simple drum programs and heavy filtering of the components. Still rocks a dance floor 20+ years later, not because of its comparative obscurity.
B1 is also cool, a harder alternative with more pronounced percussion and less atmosphere, something for later in the night. The B2 es by quickly after the preceding epics, a shorter and thicker variation on the theme.
