Released as a single in The Netherlands, after The Overlanders made a cover of it. As the sales of both versions were combined for the chart entry, it replaced "We can work it out/Day tripper" on the top spot of the Dutch Top 40 on February 12th, 1966. It was the fifth Dutch No. 1 hitsingle of the Beatles being released without the band's consent (the other four are "Long Tall Sally", "I should have known better", "Rock and roll music/No reply" and "Yesterday").
There's an unconfirmed story about this single. At the same time, the Golden Earrings (more or less the Dutch answer to the Beatles in those days) released their single "That Day", which stalled at No. 2, although the single may have sold more copies than either version of "Michelle". So if both versions of "Michelle" were to have separate chart entries, they could have had their first No. 1 hit record. In that case, it would have been the first ever Dutch No. 1 hit record in English language.
