"Portrait" by Guyer's Connection is my favorite album of the 80's, bottom line! The synth-pop and minimal wave masterpiece is to die for, literally! I am not a huge fan of their self-titled LP, which is kind of weird, considering every single song "Portrait" is a masterpiece in its own. Pogo Of Techno has the style that Miss Kittin, Legowelt, Japanese Telecom, and many other new electro artists have stolen. It's more like a hypnotic trance listening to Pogo Of Techno, and for 1983, it's pretty damn amazing! La Transformation, Dallas (of which this song sounds like the theme song to a Commodore 64 game), and Arabia all have beautiful and amazing synths. The male vocalist is very dark and deep. The album has 2 songs of which I can not say which is better: Keep The City Clean and National- Und Ständerat. The former is a song about cleaning up the dirty old city and is one of the most played songs on my minimal wave/italo disco radio show. The synths on that song are so deep and mesmerizing that I have yet to hear something better. As for National- Und Ständerat, the first several minutes is this piano-opera buildup to some of the best beat ever with some of those Swiss-German vocals. I just wrote a review saying Iko's '83 LP is my favorite album of the 80's, but I take that back! This one is.
