The quality did not disappoint! Couldn't get it off my turntable for several months. Such a great re-issue bundle, totally worth it to have in your collection.

These pressings sound phenomenal. I give the overall packaging an A- due to no printed inner sleeves just pictures of them in the booklet. Great addition to my collection!

Edited 11 months agoAnyone in the U.S. reading this, you can order this on Amazon for $89.29 before taxes. I got it delivered overnight (that's just how it shipped). It showed up the next morning and looks and sounds great!

Edited 12 months agoI own every originals except "Forbidden". (I have only unofficial version, but plays surprisingly good and dynamic) but this new Remix, is a huge surprise! It sounds like new Sabbath album and I listen in every day since was released!
And now some details and personal notes:
Like I mentioned, Forbidden is probably biggest gem in the boxset. It has great reviews and fully deserved. I listened every album and I think they plays very well, I wouldn't say better than the originals, but also not worse either. The originals play more clearly and balanced, the remasters play more bassy and punchy. Perhaps the only album that I don't like sonically is Cross Purposes, which in my opinion plays a bit darker and muddy. I miss more trebles there.
The covers are a bit dark and contrasting compared to the originals, Nevertheless: This Boxset is true gem for any Tony Martin era fan, does not matter if you have original press or not.
Press quality is outstanding! very clean, visually and also sonically!
Thank you both (Tony Iommi, and Tony Martin)
And also In Memoriam to Cozy Powell. -
My copy of Headless Cross has a white grain stuck on side A, I can't manage to remove it, hopefully it will loosen after more spins, it doesn't affect playback other than 3 pops during the beginning of the solo of When Death Calls. Other than that the sound is great, package is Ok, nothing fancy really, single jackets, album covers do not look blurry or anything tho I can't compare with originals cause I have never seen originals of these records, booklet could have been hardcover. In all and all is an Ok set physically speaking, soundwise the sound is great, the most important thing I guess, the new mix of Forbidden alone justifies this box.

As a no nonsense audiophile I can truly recommend this box set. Unpacking the box and inspecting the grooves of the records confirm a 1st class master cut and even though there were some light dust every record came in a poly lined black inner for that extra protection. Sonically it doesn't get better than this, clear separation of vocals and the instruments with immaculate top and bottom. Get one while you can, this will be expensive in the future... Pressing is universal (Made in by Optimal).

One of the photos for the BMG version shows "Cross Purposes - Live"
Is this a false photo or does the European box include this as well? -
Edited 12 months agoThe quality of this boxset is outstanding, it looks great the book is very engaging not just a collection of news cuttings that some of the other SDBS books have been, everything about it is quality. I’m onboard with having poly lined inners rather than replicas of the original inners as they are reproduced in the book.
All the four albums sound great but the job that Tony Iommi has done remixing Forbidden is unbelievable, it is now a true Sabbath album just brilliant. So now I hear that he is now possibly looking at a Born Again remix as the original tapes have been found. Can’t wait for that!!
So the only slight criticism of this set is that the book is not hardback unlike all the other recent SDBS I think that’s a bit of an odd decision by BMG but nevertheless I have given this set a well deserved 5 stars.
I picked this up for £89.00 via Amazon but would happily have paid £120-£150 or more it really is that good.

Edited one year agoyou can now listen to forbidden without issues and wondering why you're even listening to it knowing the mess they made out of it back then. And it's mastered (remixed) even better than the headless cross tyr and cross purposes.. seriously it's too good to be true. Sure, it's forbidden we're talking about, but trust me, the way it sounds now is so much better that the album itself is worth listening for real now. I couldn't believe it. The only thing that pissed me off is that they didn't include the replicas of the original inner sleeves of each album with the lyrics, artwork and stuff. There's a high quality sleeve for the record and that's about it. Blah

Such an excellent set! I mean, wow. The quality is excellent and the Tony Iommi remix of Forbidden is a masterclass of making chicken salad out of chicken shit. He's done such a great job of giving this album the mix it deserves.
