Crystal clear audio, beautiful pressing, they sound like they are playing in my lounge! If I was being picky, I'd say it was a touch on the bright side. But what the hell, a bargain piece of jazz vinyl, Miles Davis' last album recorded acoustically.

Sounds pretty good - 8/10 I'd say. You can tell it's from a digital source because it doesn't sound quite as 'organic'(?) as you'd expect. That said, the seperation and clarity are spot on.
Recommended if you can't source an original or MOFI etc. -
Edited 2 years agoI have never heard such a silent vinyl surface before; well done to MOV. The only appreciable noise is very slight clicking between "Riot" and "Pinocchio". The famous cover is very convincingly rendered, and is clearly based on original negatives. Looking at this work of art, next to the CD cover, is eye opening. This may be my favourite cover of a Miles album. It is worthy of being framed.
I believe these MOV repressings are done by a Dutch company from digital masters - but these masters are clearly of an impeccable quality (and fully licensed, unlike some). The sound is really really good, very present clean and lifelike.
I would like to present my findings in comparing this MOV repress with a recent CD release - the 1998 Columbia version of Nefertiti which was released with the Quintet box set of the same year.
In my view the title track and "Fall" are exceedingly similar between both; I would say that there is a slight superiority of the rhythm section on the LP on "Fall" only, especially Ron Carter on bass.
All other tracks, in my view, are superior on the LP to the CD. Now, the difference is nothing like as extreme as some other LPs I have compared. However, it is an appreciable improvement. I would particularly point to a greater presence of the horns - a more urgent sound - than on the CD. Tony Williams on drums consistently sounds more insistent and more tightly focussed and seems to power the quintet along more, if you know what I mean, whereas on CD he seems more diffuse in the mix.
The track I would nominate as the biggest improvement over the CD is "Riot", followed by "Hand Jive".
In this case, believe me, the CD is already excellent - a really classy pressing itself - and the differences are so slight that I am not sure if most people would regard the LP as a worthwhile "upgrade" to the sound. Of course, if you have never heard this music before, then go with this LP. (The only recent alternative at the moment would seem to be Mo Fi, which costs an arm and a leg in comparison).
Please note that my equipment is entry level at best, and I do not have an audiophile's ears, inclination, or patience. -

Stellar sounding pressing. I've never gotten an MOV pressing I haven't been extremely happy with. Tony Williams drumming is insane on this
