Edited 3 years agoThere's not a single track on this album that did not have my full attention. It's all very great. And exciting, to the point it's hard to turn it off and have it on repeat. Fantastic achievement.

There's not a single track on this album that catched my attention, it's all very bland. And boring, to the point it's hard to listen to some of the tracks to the end. Terrible dissapointment.

Edited 3 years agoI enjoy this album. It's a grower though. When I heard Renegade for the first time, I was disappointed. I was actually expecting more of the car chase instrumentals like on OutRun as I got into Kavinsky through Drive like a lot of folks. The vocal heavy tracks grew on me quickly though and I find Zenith, Renegade and Cameo getting stuck in my head. The latter two could fit nicely among your Michael Jackson Thriller-era hits and the like. I think Kavinsky's beats and synth noises really make the vocal tracks addictive give them an extra bite. The few instrumentals are also nice, not as memorable as the OutRun ones, but still pretty nice. This album is definitely more accessible to pop fans than OutRun was.
As for the aesthetic, it's definitely an "80s man" type of album. Makes me think immediately of Miami Vice, Scarface, Terminator, neon-lit nightclubs, drug kingpins, sports cars, bikini clad women, and various Ninja gang movies. Would not be surprised to see some of these tracks show up in a new GTA game that's set in Vice City. Kavinsky has the 80s vibe down pat! 4/5
