One of my favourites in my collection, but why are people reselling for so much? Is there something special about this repress that I don’t know?

Edited 3 years agoMusic is, as always, timeless. But this pressing is extremely noisy. My copy is at least, especially side B. (Not original recording noise). It's a shame because it otherwise sounds good.

Like many have stated before, this album has a lot of surface noise, but I do believe that some of the noise that they are hear could be just gain white noise from the original recordings, which this album is FILLED with. That's not a bad thing... Elliott Smith's music always had a lo-fi quality to them, which is a stylistic choice. Overall I felt this pressing sounded good, dynamic wise, but was a bit hot in some portions. Sibilance was heard a bit throughout. The record also needs a BIG cleaning before playing, imo, as it was quite noisy pre-clean.

Listened to this on headphones back to back with my 2017 copy. They both have inner paper scuffing problems that lead to surface noise, but 2017 is slightly hotter and more dynamic to my ears. Runout with this 2021 is similar to the 2017 press with the last letters reading E and F instead of C and D. Okey dokey, nerd out.

Edited 4 years agoI thought the recent two LP expanded edition was a bit brutal to listen to. Very harsh. Is this any different? If not, then I truly don't think this reissue was necessary.
Edit*** According the notes above, this was mastered by "Don," the same "Don" who mastered the 2017 reissue. This might end up getting merged. -
