As much as I love the B-52's, I never could get into their song, 'Hallucinating Pluto', although I absolutely loved 'Debbie' when they released the two tracks as a bonus on their greatest hits compilation, Time Capsule. Pluto's remix, by electronic music producer Jason Nevins, is, in my opinion, one of the most irritating tracks I've ever heard in my life. He chops up Fred's screechiest vocals and assaults the listener with no apologies, which makes it kind of punk rock, but also 100% impossible to listen to. And for 8 minutes? Yeah, no. But thanks for the offer! I'm sure some poor soul out there eats it up with a spoon. Then there's the "Schottische Mix" of Good Stuff. Moby remixing The B-52's?! This is a dream come true! This is....really kind of....underwhelming, repetitive and annoying. Wow, what a letdown that track was. A very tedious 3 minutes and 40 seconds. From there we move on to a very boring, uninspired and basic-b*tch house remix by DJ Tonka that would have made dancers yawn in the late 80s. Then on to another needless house remix, this time of their recent (at the time) song, Debbie. The production values in this remix are bit better and more inspired, but the song's excellent vocals are very poorly sampled and, sadly, completely wasted. The "Ride On" Beats version of Hallucinating Pluto isn't as much like chewing on broken glass as its previous remix, simply for the fact that he pretty much left Fred's vocals alone this time, and we just basically have synths, bass and percussion for nearly 5 minutes. The disc ends with the 12" mix of Love Shack, which is easily the best track on this EP, but it was nearly a decade old already when this disc was released. It was nothing new, and for it to be the best track on a disc otherwise containing brand new (at the time) material is a total fail.

In conclusion, one good thing that came out of my recent listening of this disc for the first time in 17 years is that I realized why I also shelved the far superior 'Summer Of Love 98' EP for so long - because I associated it with this train wreck of a release, which I purchased at the same time. Mystery solved.

A generous 2 stars out of 5; most of the positive rating going to the 12" mix of Love Shack.
