Edited 4 months agoExcellent sound and I really love that the drums are more present here and pretty thunderous, making this by far my favorite vessel to take this filthy darkness in. Probably my favorite Black Metal album of all time and it looks nice on my turntable too!
It's a goddamn shame that they overdid the original purple printing fad a tad too much - lyrics are provided in the gatefold, but you can't read shit - no contrast whatsoever. Same thing with cover and spine. A shame. Shame.
It looks like my copy too likes to warp. Plays good, but is starting to warp in vertical storage for some twisted satanic reason. Hopefully this cancer won't advance too much.
Album: 5/5
Pressing: 5/5
Packaging: 1/5

Mine came with a pretty hefty warp, but it plays through without any issues. It just looks a little weird on the platter.
The only downsides to this pressing is the artwork. You can barely read any of the text and the image on the front cover is also difficult to see, which is a shame, because the layout is cool. The pressing itself sounds great though and packs a real punch! -
This release sounds fine to me, I wasn’t expecting much but I’m very impressed after listening to it. The drums stand out the most imo, they sound like cannons. I would recommend this to anyone who likes this album though.

The few shortcomings here come from the awful artwork. It's incomprehensible how they changed the logo and artwork and the printing is just disastrous. On the other hand I have listened to this on the same equipment and could compare it with the DLSP original press and really couldn't tell any difference. The sound represents the real thing thoroughly.

Edited 2 years agoThe reissue of the No. 1 Black Metal album of all time left mixed impressions.
Probably, first of all It would like to express a misunderstanding about how this masterpiece got into the hands of the Back on Black, this album clearly deserves a more solid label and a more respectful attitude. After the album fell into unreliable hands from this undertakers in 2010, a version with a terrible design is published from year to year. Pixel cover, low-grade reproductions of photos without contrast, typos, etc. I don't want to say that Back on Black fed shit to several tens of thousands of people... but it is rather unpleasant to face such indifference. It remains to be hoped that someday the copyright holders will break contract with these businessmen who hate music, and this album will be released in a more worthy form - not like this cheap one!
In of sound, everything is very good. And it is for the sake of sound that it is worth having this record in your collection, having previously thrown out the gatefold. There is depth, dynamics and volume here. Yes, this record doesn't sound very loud, but still vinyl perfectly reveals this record. If compared with the CD version, the vinyl has a slightly greater emphasis on the rhythm section, due to which the album sounds more attacking and dense. But they didn't forget about guitars either, "the necrosound" is as it is and rare solos sound like a knife blade on glass. However, it does not lose its magical / mystical properties and is able to hold attention again and again. If we turn to the technical data, then in almost all tracks DR 11 - not bad for a new-made vinyl with an old record. Otherwise, the vinyl playbacks clean and quiet, so nothing will prevent you from being alone with the Mystery of the Lord Satan and unraveling it.
Of course, this particular edition deserves a lower rating, but in the current realities it will not change anything. Just know that if you decide to purchase this album, the press level doesn't match to the status of the band and the album. -
Not the best pressing of this album. Cover is very hard to read, purple on black, as well as the record sounds very quiet and scratchy, which is not how this particular record is supposed to sound. Redeeming qualities are the music itself as well as the awesome colour of the vinyl, this purple variant is beautiful.

Edited 2 years agoMy copy has these rounout variants
Matrix / Runout (Runout A): 83003E1/D
Matrix / Runout (Runout B): 83003E1/H
Bought sealed but it's warped. Sound is just fine. -
Better sounding pressing than I imagined. Drums especially are loud and crisp. Definitely a good addition to the collection.
-
Slightly warped and skuffs over the grooves, not surprised since the record is pressed by Czech pressing plant GZ. It is incomprehensible to call this a great pressing. Most likely sourced straight from a CD album.
