Edited 3 years agoIn 1992, a lot of new remixes were commissioned by Sony of older Jacko tracks and on this one, there are two of the best ones in the pack along with Frankie Knuckles' timeless remix of 'Rock With You'. Moby reforms "Beat It" into a hardcore/dub workout and Brothers In Rhythm made a cracking piano ho out of 'Wanna Be Startin' Something'.
Moby's remix of 'Beat It' starts with Eddie van Halen's guitar solo and then the intro stabs from the original rearranged along with a Jacko chant. Then it kicks off proper with a chunky subby bass and some heavy drums. Halfway in track changes into some dub atmospherics and Moby strips the track down to the original bassline which is emphasised heavily and along with some delayed drums you hear Jacko's verse then it kicks back into hardcore with the Van Halen guitar solo used as an interlude. Quite an original revamp this classic.
Brothers In Rhythm go for a traditionalist approach and just update and beef up "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'". The track kicks along proper with a chunky beat and some vocal stabs and the funky guitar from the original and a piano is added and the original horns are worked right proper. A stunning and lovely rework of this classic.
