Neat little two disk reissue. If you’ve not seen one before this is packaged in a mini hardback book style sleeve which slips into a sturdy outer slipcase. The quality is excellent throughout. The booklet inside (stapled in between the two CDs) is informative. Short but sweet. You get one of Paul Morley’s typical “essays” plus the lyrics and some basic information about the 14 bonus tracks.
These tracks are nice to have. You get the 11 O Clock Tick Tock single + B side, a different mix of IWF, a couple of unreleased tracks, the Another Day single + B side, and some live stuff.
As for the actual album, if you’re unfamiliar with it we’re still in post punk territory with U2 sounding more like a mixture of Joy Division and early Simple Minds. SQ seems good enough to me. I no longer have the original vinyl release so am unable to compare them. I certainly don’t get ear fatigue.
Im going to have to dig this out now. I always associate Boy with the Winter months (along with Unforgettable Fire) so I’m overdue a play.
It’s strange listening to this keeping in mind where the band ended up. Bit like Depeche Mode - if youd told me back in 1981 that those two bands would go on to be stadium fillers, I would have scoffed :)
