Edited 2 years agoI already owned the 2017 EU repress, so was able to compare them directly. The repress sounds good enough, but this version has far superior bass and depth in the drums. There's some sibilance in the vocals (also present on the repress), but the digital version also has it to some extent, so I think he recorded the album with a hot mike and the vinyl just emphasises it a tad. -
This pressing is dynamite. Ive never heard an original US or any of the represses but I really wanted a 1994 press of some kind, and this did not disappoint. Bass is loud and full and the drums sound deep with Nas gliding over the top of all of it. My copy is a little beat up but that doesn’t stop the sound from really booming out of this one. -
Edited 3 years agoGot this pressing for cheap because it was a bit beat up from what I presume to be DJ usage. The sleeve is very rough but despite the record having visible scratches, non of them majorly affect playback and the vinyl has held its fidelity very well after 25+ years. This pressing, in my opinion, sounds fantastic. I consistently hear complaints of sibilance issues on vinyl pressings of this record, but the only notable spot where this occurs is Halftime - which is understandable as this was recorded in 1991 in completely different sessions from the rest of the album. N.Y. State of Mind, Life's A B*tch, The World is Yours and all the classics sound great.
