No warp as such but I'm a bit pissed off because my vinyl has a slight kink in it causing the stylus to jump a little at the start. Otherwise, this sounds fantastic. The vast majority of stuff including the alternate mix, singles, backing tracks, etc have already been released on previous special editions of "Forever Changes" but not so the mono fold down. Also, the DVD... nobody talks about the DVD...The DVD contains the album in hi-def sound. All you see on the screen as it is playing is a shot of the album cover and the track list. There is also a 4 minute and 45 second music video of "Your Mind and We Belong Together" which shows the guys goofing around their domicile, panoramic views of L.A. from their balcony. Arthur riding his bicycle, driving his car and hanging with his dog, pigeons and girlfriend. Cool booklet with lots of info and pics and this is where you will find the gold stamped, limited edition item number. It's stamped on the insert booklet and NOT on the outer, textured, hard book cover. Recommended, but don't feed he sharks.

I'm really surprised by how good this sounds. I have the famed 2012 Rhino and I think it holds up. It's a very different representation of the music... not necessarily better or worse, just different. There's a ton of clarity and punch, the way you want for this album. Maybe even moreso than the 2012. Either way, you're definitely not missing out on anything by listening to the vinyl included in this set.
This is a pretty solid set. Highly recommended if you like your CDs or if you happen to stumble upon it (the mono CD is a folddown). -

The songs and the mastering are great. The vinyl is fine. The DVD is like a snapshot of 1960s LA. The alternate mix (apparently done in 2008, I see it on Apple Music with the extras) is actually worthwhile – the guitars are tougher in places, and am I hearing a little extra at the end of "The Red Telephone?"

What is the matrix for the LP? It seem unlikely that Grundman would recut the lacquers that is protege Chris Bellman cut for the 45th anniversary edition.

Edited 7 years agoOk let me understand this Bruce Botnick before this box was released was pleading with whoever had the 8 track tapes of Forever Changes to just lend the tapes to copy to make a new mix. How did STEVE HOFFMAN make these new alternate mixes on disc 3 and what year. Does Mr. Hoffman have the tapes. Who else would ? How much you want to make a bet he does and how. If he does have them he can make a new 2018 mix and have them anonymously sent in. Because something is fishy here.
