Edited 8 months agoso happy to finally have a copy of this!! my copy doesn’t have any surface noise what so ever. no cracks no pops nothing. however it is noticeably more quiet compared to the rest of my other records. i have to crank up my volume pretty high on songs like “Rushes” but either way i’m so happy to have my biggest grail.

frank sounds heavenly, but after reading these comments, and my own experiences with this vinyl, it is far from a flawless press. on some of the songs there is surface noise present, it isn't enough to disturb the sound quality and frank's voice, however it is present. i got mine sealed, and this is the case. however still beautiful pressing, and amazing to own on vinyl.

This is the greatest album of all time and the greatest looking vinyl as a whole I have a ever possessed.

Hard to compare the mastering since I only know the vinyl version but pressing is perfect. No surface noise and really warm and natural sound. Comes packaged with probably the coolest outer sleeve ever and both records have an etched backside. Not the biggest fan of this since you could have used that space differently. Maybe press the whole thing in 45RPM then or only on one disc? But whatever. Innersleeves are also trash. Overall can recommend but definitely not for resale prices...

Edited 5 years agoSeems I was one of the lucky ones, I bought it new and sealed from a trusty seller (sole owner), very little surface noise, no pops at all and very good soundstage with deep clear bass and low ends. Is not the best sounding album I own but trust me it does the job, sounds clearly better than the Lossless formats I heard before and at some points can sound truly overwhelming (Frank's voice is a highlight)
The packaging is something more of a personal preference, I love every single thing about it. I believe it elevates the status of the record from a simple release to a work of art. If you complain about having to change records to keep listening then why are you even on vinyl?
The only problem its the surface noise that pops up once in a while, for me at least I had noticeable noise (vol 60%) in no more than a 15-20% of the record. Overall, great pressing, impressive at times when noise is not an issue.
Setting: Rega P1/ Rega Brio/ Ortofon 2m Red and Dali Spektor 2 (standard cables)

to get any Frank Ocean physical release is a must if you can and this is no exception. got mine from his black friday week and it was worth the long wait. the sketches, art, music, sound and everything else is awesome. I'm seeing $100+ copies on here for sale and honestly, it's worth it.

Edited 6 years agoBoth discs are noisy to the point of being distracting at times, (i've had both discs cleaned on a VPI 16.5 which didn't really help) it's very noticeable on (At Your Best) You Are Love, Impietas, and Rushes. But, otherwise the songs are loud enough to drown it out. Funnily enough the background noise is pretty much gone on Higgs which is nice I guess.
The sound quality itself is pretty much the same as the FLAC I found on Reddit (if anything the vinyl is a little worse) which is decent, nothing special but good enough.
The cover and the disc etchings are cool, and i'm glad that it's only two sides because flipping the album every 10 minutes would get old quick.
My love for this album overcomes the shortcomings of the pressing so overall i'm happy
