It took finally traveling out of California for me to give this record a chance. A solid major label debut, even if some of the tracks only feature a verse or two. All of "When It's Dark Out" is pure honesty , whether Gerald is wishfully thinking ("One of Them"), fucked up ("Some Kind Of Drug" or on the Southside slapper "You Got Me"), or contemplating making amends ("Think About You", "Everything Will Be OK") there is sprinkles of a little bit of everything that has made G-Eazy a household name and able to get the co-signs of both Bay area legends Too $hort ("Of All Things") and E-40 ("Nothing To Me") respectfully. It may take some convincing, and maybe forgiving BeBe Rexha for that god awful hook on "Me, Myself , & I" (she did craft the hook for Eminem's "The Monster" so she's cool in my book) but once I gave Gerald the chance, I did not regret it.
