When the remix is better than the original? Most definitely!
...and don't write off Vessel as a 'filler' B-side, it's a killer, I've been dropping it in sets for years...finally getting the recognition it deserves...
If you play out, drop it in your next set, I DARE YOU...actually, drop 'em both...oldies, but goodies! -
Vessel. Has aged very very well, wish this sound was still around. Another one to check out in this style: Batcave by Keaton & Nitrox

Going back through my old dnb vinyl and what an EP this is! Back in the day it was all about Pacman remix for me and I never played Vessel. What was I thinking, awesome production!

Vessel was the one. Probably my favourite UP tune. I never really got on with the Pacman RMX. Love Vessel and love the arrangement of the tune.. Second drop is hard as Fck.

referencing Pacman (Ram Trilogy Remix) / Vessel (12", 45 RPM, Record Store Day, Limited Edition, Picture Disc) VRS010
Most people I know with a copy of this rinse out the Pac-Man remix which was a favourite of the likes of Mampi Swift, Andy C & just about every other DJ worth his salt at the time. For me, it is all about the B-Side, I can't actually recall a time when I've played the A Side as Vessel overpowers it so much. It starts off with heavy beats with atmospheric screechy pads & introduces more percussion as the tune progresses.. It eventually drops after a tense breakdown, but this is still only the beginning.. Crazy appregiated synth lines bubble ferociously beneath the surface, getting fiercer & fiercer until 64 bars in, carnage is let loose. Progressive Tech DnB at its finest!! Absolute killer track -
Edited 18 years agoThese are both killer dancefloor tunes.
The epic stomping pacman remix probably is the best remix work Ram Trilogy ever did, and vessel could be seen as one of the first tracks sounding like the current hard technoid/ neuro, and one of the best at that. Virus never released anything after this where both sides were as good.

Edited 19 years agoVessel is a very outstanding and highly innovative tune that pushed the borders of Drum n Bass, while the a-side is just an average remix by producers who had their most productive time years ago.
