Notes
From Grouper's Bandcamp:
"Ruins was made in Aljezur, Portugal in 2011 on a residency set up by Galeria Zé dos Bois.
I recorded everything there except the last song, which I did at mother's house in 2004.
Iʼm still surprised by what I wound up with. It was the first time Iʼd sat still for a few years; processed a lot of political anger and emotional garbage. Recorded pretty simply, with a portable 4-track ,Sony stereo mic and an upright piano. When I wasnʼt recording songs I was hiking several miles to the beach. The path wound through the ruins of several old estates and a small village.
The album is a document. A nod to that daily walk. Failed structures. Living in the remains of love. I left the songs the way they came (microwave beep from when power went out after a storm); I hope that the album bears some resemblance to the place that I was in. "

Just figured out the way to listen to this is to listen to the CD of the storm and the record at the same time. It's even better than the album by itself.

Little noisy in some parts, but overall a decent pressing of a beautiful album. Well worth the $16 she's currently selling it for on bandcamp. Get it before it's gone again! -

Bought my copy on Oct 31st 2014 when it came out. I think it was 20ish bucks for that first pressing. Amazing how a first pressing is so expensive now! Glad I got it when it came out. -

This is simply one of my most treasured records. I don't think it'll offend anyone to say that Liz is clearly not a master pianist, but the simplicity and urgency of these recordings is very emotive and makes for a very engaging album. I never tire of listening to this. -

My copy is pretty noisy. Its doesnt look dirty, but perhaps it just needs a good cleaning -

I'm pleased that this is a good pressing since many elements off this wonderful release are very quiet. I only wish it came with a card. -
Also a quick note, the artwork that appears on the Kranky version does not appear in any shape or form on this deluxe edition....Sadly. Don't get me wrong this is a beautiful work of art...but the cover art on the standard issue is equally breathtaking! Great job Liz!!

To anybody interested in this version of Ruins that didn't get a copy themselves, this was available on a one per person basis, solely through emailing Liz directly to reserve a copy. She had originally intended on publishing a 1000 copies, but due to time restraints, limited the print edition to only 500. Liz has also said that if these sell well, she intends to release a second 500 batch of this self released edition when she has more time. The second pressing will have artwork with an inverted color scheme, but in all other ways it will be exactly the same.
