The third album by The Durutti Column, released on vinyl only in the UK in August 1983.
A boxed cassette edition was released in the UK in 1986.
The first genuine CD release in the UK was in 1998 on The First Four Albums (1988).

bäÄäd pressing, loud background hiss (due to color vinyl? - who needs coloured vinyl anyway?) - clicks all over all sides, I would regard for my self as unlistenable - packaging nice, good quality -
It blows my mind to learn that both Tony Wilson, Vini Reilly and those who played on this album were unhappy with the results. This record is simply breathtaking. It's not as brilliant as LC or Circuses and Bread but still, wow, lovely album. -
Edited 2 years agoI got either non-fill or over modulation on side A in several places.

You either like this kind of music or you don’t. No complaints from me, I’ve always loved it. More gorgeousness from Vini. -
I got my pre order with the notification it would be a case of take the two green records or await a back order for the proper multi coloured release. I opted for double green and indeed it arrived as such, disc one being more opaque with some marbling and disc two being more straight through transparant. Disc one sadly is a mess after a chunk of excess vinyl residue with sharp edges has scuffed side a and put two horror scratches on side b the likes ive never seen before. Check yours upon receipt folks, ive had to ask for replacement within 5 mins of opening my horror show!

Mine sounds nice, not flat though. Acceptable but flatness could be better. -
It's unfortunate some people got duds, as this pressing is by far one of the finest I've heard in years. Crystal clear quality, no surface noise or pops, nothing short of stellar. Hopefully for those who weren't as fortunate to get a good copy, a proper reissue will be forthcoming? If there's any time to properly get Vini's stuff out there for people to enjoy and access, now is the time. -
unfortunately the pressing quality of this record is not the best. Each LP is riddled with annoying clicks and pops that really distract on this record because there are a lot of quiet parts. LP two is also slightly warped and off center. A little bummed.

Edited 11 years agoFantastic Japanese issue lovely quality in design and sound.
Mini CD cover is same as the original Factory sleeve.
This is one of my fav DC albums always loved the sound of the LP overall.
The highlight for me is the haunting Smile in the Crowd with Trumpet at the end from ACR's Simon Topping and the spaced out ambience of Spent Time utter brilliance.
