Golden Dawn is among the finest downtempo dub pieces I have ever heard, a true classic. Shapes Of Sleep, Spin Cycle, Wake Up and of course Swamp Thing have something going for them, but as a whole this doesn't function as an album, there are too many superficial fillers on display.

This is an awesome, inspiring album showcasing the wide repertoire of this pioneering group. When I was a kid I spent some nights travelling on the train and 'Higher Peaks' totally blew me away. It still catches my imagination to date. Yes, The Grid has Evolved trance by this album - it's the trance movement in the making, evolving before our very ears..

Brilliant album for it's time, actually did a dj mix recently and had tracks like "Wake Up" and "Shapes of Sleep" sitting next to Coldplay and Adam K. The tunes still sound remarkably fresh. I buying this around Christmas '93 and enjoyed playing out "Swamp Thing" for many years. Class. 5/5

one question, i cant find the track ''wake up'' on youtube....but listen to Laurent Garnier track of the same name....was the Grid's trakc a cover? I haven't heard it for years, but it it sounding nearly identical in every way...anyone? I swear they are identical can someone post the Grid version to youtube? I am convinced it is either a rip off of Garnier or the other way round

This is a perfect album. No flaws, nothing missing, and nothing needs to be taken away. I once had a girl who wasn't sure if she wanted to date me, it wasn't until she saw this in my collection that she made up her mind. I want to clearly state that this is NOT the reason I gave this a 5/5.

A classic of its time, The Grid's third album, _Evolver_, is probably their best-known work, spawning a number of hit singles. There's still plenty to enjoy about it, years on, from the zippy "Wake Up" to the infamous banjo on "Swamp Thing" (also known as 'the banjo heard around the world'). The western riff on "Texas Cowboys" is just as good, if not as immediately catchy, just as the guitar on "Throb" gives it rock music's energy, but with a definite techno mindset. "Rise" and "Higher Peaks" seems a bit more typical, but "Shapes of Sleep" gets back to proper stomp tempo with some deep male chanting (for more chanting, go to "Golden Dawn"). You know what? It's still great after all these years.

One of my most beloved techno albums ever!! This sucked me into the electronic music scene and came out back when I was only 12. It's a classic and contains some classic dance anthems from the 90's including,Texas Cowboys,Rollercoaster and of course Swamp Thing. The other trax are also excellent and was sort of ahead of it's time slightly and still doesn't sound all that dated. It's the most rounded of all the grid releases and was like the final piece in their musical Jigsaw. I'd love them to get back together to do another full studio album they were great.

Although "swamp thing" and "texas cowboys" were interesting tracks at that time, this album sounds now excessively trancy and dated. However, in my opinion, the stand-out track and the reason for me to hold this cd is "golden dawn": this final track of the album comes like an hidden treasure, a surprising ambient track with opera vocals.
