Edited 9 months agoPastoral-flavoured electronic sun-kissed balearic vibes from UK's Ultramarine.
Underrated work of genius from the early 90s!
All the better for it I guess. Cult classic surely.
The follow up long player United Kingdoms included folk to the mix.
Any only 8,000 monthly listeners on Spotify? The world is crazy.
For me a rediscovery really having only heard a few tracks back in the day. I can only recommend people to get on board! And the guys are still going today.

A simply amazing piece of work from the genre pressed and delivered perfectly to our ears, this is just a great collection of electronic compositions containing samples and beats that will draw the naysayers in bit by bit. I for one was into this album upon it’s release, as it was gifted to me by a friend who slipped me promos from the Turtle’s he worked at. It always was great, but this pressing takes it up a notch. So good how chill and danceable it is simultaneously and did I mention it’s a killer pressing of it? I could take or leave the artwork on the cover; I liked the original, but also understand how this new version may appeal to today’s buyer seeing as how it’s eeeek over 30 years old at this point and the original cover does reflect that with a dated look. -

Great sounding record. I think I'm the only person that actually likes the new artwork! -

Finally got around to ordering this brand-new online; arrived today and both seams are split at the top, so back it goes. Annoying. -

The Rough Trade reissue is a nice heavy duty vinyl set but the 'changing seasons fallen leaves' photoshop artwork looks cheap as hell... Plus autumn is not the season suggested by the music. The first Rough Trade with the dove and cornfield fitted the pastoral summer rave comedown vibe with echoes of KLF chillout...
The first Brainiac version doesn't feature the funky afterhours stormer that is Saratoga and you can't listen to that gem without cracking a smile and having a little skip on the mental dance floor at least...
So to sum up, get the first Rough Trade first versions for the music and artwork!
PS Ultramarine have never been blessed with great artwork - the Folk album looks like something Marillion would have refused for being too garish and esoteric-proggy...

A very well-rounded, pleasing, diverse album that still sounds relevant today, at least to my ears! No duff track on that one!

Edited 4 years agoAs per the other comment...a special place; I had thousands of records this was one of the few I kept. It's not one you'll hear people bang on about, it wasn't massivley popular, but it's a gem. It was exploring, just like many of us at the time...if nothing else it's a perfect downtempo voyage around your bed/living room (where ever you end up!). Aaron jumpers meet Joe Bloggs. I'm from the UK, I'm no nationalist, but this makes me go gooey for England's fluffy green pastures of a sunny Summer's dawn; Look! There's a sound system with lots of people winding down after a hards night raving, their minds and body's energies are spent, nature smiles, they are inseperable from memories of parties long past..."Out Here In The Perimeters We Are Stone...Henged!"

Interesting that the album title is identical to a phrase from TAGC's "Big Sex" (both TAGC and Ultramarine's former self A Primary Industry shared same space on the amazing Sweatbox label).
