Simon & Garfunkel – Bookends

Found a practically unplayed version without the poster! Other reviews (see below) delineate the Mono difference so I’ll focus on the fidelity. How’s it sound? Damn fine! Beautiful EQ with a nice wide 3D soundstage and bass rocks just right, but it’s the texture of the acoustic guitars and vocals/voices that make this shine. Highest recommendation. True mono press and very rare — mono was being phased out by ‘68. This and the mono pressing of Big Brother & The Holding Company from same year are two of the rarest records in Columbia’s catalogue. Surprised the mono of this iconic LP remains reasonably priced. Won’t be for long. Gorgeous 3D sound on this pressing. Happy hunting to find a clean one.

The matrixes in the deadwax give me the pressing these were pressed with US parts from Pitman, NJ. That being said this is as good or better that my 1st US 1B / 1B Terre Haute and on par with my 1st US Santa Maria 1A / 1A which is the best original press. The vinyl is better and the clarity is on par with the best US if not better. Worth getting if you can find a clean copy. Almost holographic sound. Has the dark lettering on 360 sound on the bottom of the label so likely a very early pressing.

Incredible separation. Sounds really wonderful. Can't imagine the MoFi is worth more than twice the price of those in the marketplace as of today.

Terra Haute 1B/1B stereo 1st pressing has a wide stereo soundstage with outstanding sonic definition and depth. Vocals, instruments, and sound effects are all stunning.

A surprisingly good sounding release. Nice stereo separation. Considering there's no HX Pro, XDR, etc., I was very pleased with how this sounded.

The version is great. You won’t go wrong if you find a copy. Strongly recommended.

This sounds great--as other s have mentioned, very similar to the OG. The OG has just a tiny bit more warmth to it, but this one has a little bit more separation and clarity. You can't go wrong with either (if you can get a clean OG). I didn't hear that much sibilance on my system (my cartridge is a bit forgiving with upper frequencies, though).
