What’s there not to like Giorgio Morodor? Chase kept many Coast2Coast AM radio listeners awake into the paranormal. That tune stays
forever etched in many millions’ memories -

Surprising sound, perhaps a little too aggressive cut-wise, but swollen and beautifully alive! Too bad for a few too many sibilance at the end of B side, maybe it's just my copy that is worn out, but i wouldn't swear it, otherwise it's a truly decent vinyl. -

Got this back in 2020,Great to sit back and listen to craftsmanship and musicianship. Way ahead of his time for the 70's and still a standout today! Of course Chase just dominates decades later, love it! Pressing quality is quiet, clear and carries presence. -

Alan Parker and Oliver Stone's 1978 Oscar-winning triumph "Midnight Express" opens with a U.S. student attempting to smuggle hashish out of Turkey. What follows is, for the most part, an uncompromising and gripping depiction of his imprisonment. Largely due to Stone's winning - and controversial - formula: embellishing and fictionalizing real-life events with dramatic beats galore, it is, even by today's standards, a brutal and haunting picture that stays with you long after the credits roll, elevated by a strong central performance as well as many a memorable and moving moment interpolated to alleviate the demonizing (ittedly mostly unveracious) portrayal of the Turkish authorities and prison system.
As thrilling and watchable as the movie is, its biggest flaw, a missed opportunity if ever there was one, i.e. the romantic undertones in the brief but profound connection that suddenly sparks between the incarcerated protagonist and his fellow inmate, s as even more unfortunately underdeveloped when one listens to the delicate yet driving synths highlighting the implied sexual component of their seemingly platonic exchanges. Giorgio Moroder's stark and tender electronic score abandons the sensationalistic, show-stopping Stone specialities and channels the homoerotic territory of the movie. The "Midnight Express" OST may expose potential Hollywood queer baiting and/or censoring, but that is not all it achieved at the time of the film's theatrical release. Upon attaining the Oscar for Original Motion Picture Score, it became the first electronic score to be recognised by the Academy, which is astonishing when one considers the emergence of the soundtrack's spellbinding lead single and unarguable standout, "Chase", as the club-ready archetype for Italo-disco, a much-maligned music genre of the 1980s that evolved from the underground dance scene. All told, the film and its soundtrack are two halves of the same whole - listening to the score before watching the film will prove somewhat disappointing (it suggests that the film is far more soulful and sentimental than it actually is). However or whatever context and order you consume it, Moroder's soundtrack is one of the most important and melodic electronic scores of all-time, and as is true of the film's performances, writing and direction, indispensable.
RATING: 4/5 -
Giorgio Moroder is known for his work composing disco sounds...This soundtrack sounds like you entered the doors of Studio 54...The vibrating theme is known by most film and music fans...An iconic soundtrack for a flick that scored TWO Academy Awards...A heavy duty story at the time...the music adds that other special dimension to the film and it's stunning visual presentation...

For some reason my copy has staple holes on the artwork, yet, no other pages were issued or inside it as proven by checking other copies and pressings. -
