Yup, like Spider said this uber-dynamic release is the only CD to have the 4.48 original-LP mix of the Title track without it being compressed-to-fuck as on every other CD (and this is even more dynamic than the 1985 Australian CD). You should hear it on the 16/48 LPCM from the VHS Hi-Fi track -- it's even better... -
Edited 8 months agoThis was an instant classic when it arrived at the record store where I worked. I still have our play copy (“sale is unlawful”) and have to say it’s a sonic masterpiece of the time.

Excellent-sounding pressing. I also have a US pressing cut at Sterling Sound, but my copy is so weirdly, inexplicably noisy that I don't like listening to it. I'm sure a cleaner copy sounds great, but the UK/EU is so good I might not bother replacing it. I do, however, prefer the US Sterling for "Soul Mining" to the original UK, though, so that's also influencing me.

A lesser early edition that suffers from compression, making for a disappointing experience. -
An insanely good pressing. Why can't modern vinyl sound like this.....I've bought so many below par records in the last year.

This pressing is awesome. Deep bass and cool separation. Wide soundstage. Well pressed! -
So, yet another of the 24 bit travesties. What motivated these outrageously loud and aggressive transfers!? What a waste of time, money, and effort on behalf of the fans who faithfully thought they were getting cutting edge upgrades!!!

This edition kicks. Very dynamic and tight. Completely different soundstage compared to this edition, The The - Infected. -
referencing Infected (CD, Album, Reissue) CDCBS 26770
A lower output and completely different soundstage than the '87 Canadian release, including 2 different mixes with alternate openings, yes, so if you only have the North American version grab this, and the extended versions are a nice bonus. -
Eh - it's ok. My brother was the big The The Fan - to me, it's just ok. It's not bad or anything. I enjoy listening to it - but it's a lot like listening to Alex Chilton. It's about the lyrics and angst. The arrangements are good. He's talented. But - it's just not something I would seek out.
