Fantastic press of an essential album; clear separation of instruments, deep bass, wide soundstage. Still sounds totally relevant today in 2024. Perfect all round ;-)

To my ears an excellent pressing of a great album

My copy was absolutely filthy. Streaks, dust, and oily shine over both sides. Sounds great though even after just a wet brushing (and it wasn't warped at all). I'll get it deep cleaned soon and see if any of the above can be remedied as it still looks terrible.

If you're having trouble deciding which version of the record to get, I also own a UK pressing and this Sterling Sound cut sounds MUCH better. I second gdurkn's comment about it being an impressively clean and quiet pressing, too, especially for the era and not being on KC-600 or Quiex or anything like that.

The 12" singles cut at Sterling are similarly excellent, too.

Just thought I'd mention that the original outer sleeve of this record has a slightly wider spine to accommodate the 'Perfect' single. It's an identifiable feature not to be overlooked.

A full range digital transfer that is dynamic, resonant, and crisp.

Not to diminish the fact that the output level on this edition is extreme, when played on a Sony blu-ray/SACD player, 2 channel, of course, this really kicks. Player specific? Sounds awful on my Panasonic players.

The The is in my opinion an underrated new wave band. It deserves more recognition. The synth on this album is really what stands out. Something else that comes to mind while listening is the creative and goofy lyrics. Lines like "ive been waiting for tomorrow all of my life" at the same time confuse me and hit close to home. I can relate to many lyrics whether or not it is in the intended way or not it still comforts me.
