I have two original pressings of this record.
One is this listing (wth the black 70's label)
Matrix / Runout (Side A etched): BST 84334-A LH RSS 114
Matrix / Runout (Side B etched): BST 84334-B WK SX68
The other is the one with the traditional blue note labels.
Matrix / Runout (Side A runout): BNST 84334-A MK RSS
Matrix / Runout (Side B runout): BNST 84334-B MK SXS8 1
The one with the newer black label,
BST 84334-A LH RSS 114
BST 84334-B WK SX68
Sounds better to me. The bass is a deeper and it sounds a little more dynamic. I am not much of an audiophile, I have a system that is good but I only worth $3000 tops. -
Borders on sounding shockingly good. Stellar drum performance that is done serious justice on this recording. This album is a banger.

Is anyone able to compare this version (particularly B1) with the 2022 reissue version Brother Jack McDuff - Moon Rappin'? On the reissue, B1 has a very flat sound and doesn't quite match the quality of the other tracks. -

If somebody has a nice sleeve without a record, please me. I have found mine without a sleeve -

If anyone has a empty sleeve of record in sleeve with a record bad condition, please me -
Incredible sound, flat and quiet pressing. Reading a few other reviews I was concerned about track B1, no complaints at all. Yes it’s a little quiet and not as “alive” but by no means does it ruin the experience of listening to the album, if it bothers you skip it when you flip sides.

Edited one year agoBut why is track B1 'Moon Rappin'' inferior audio quality on this pressing/release? Master worn out/damaged? Only masterable version available? Rights issues? Is it same on first pressing? A real shame 'cos the rest of it is absolute killer. Yes, Blue Note, Tone Poet version please with B1 'Moon Rappin'' fixed!

came slightly warped but still plays well.. about 1/5 of these CVS/Tone Poets come with some warp but when flat are great.. make it easy and return 4-5 at Whole Foods(after buying amazon), grab a beer and instantly re-order LOL..

Edited one year agoB1 drops is a dud but the rest of this record kicks. Really enjoying the dry drum sound which drives the organ and other instruments. Flat, quiet vinyl and an excellent master & cut.

Saw this on sale at Acoustic Sounds and based on the reviews here I took the bait. So glad I did! I've played the record several times now, and it's a stunner - and a fitting cover/title, as it does contain some very spaced out soul jazz. To echo what most others have said, this is an excellent pressing. Mine is flat, clean, and sounds like funky heaven.
