Im not a big fan of the album as a whole, but "State Of Shock" STILL packs one helluva punch 39yrs later! "Torture" is pretty good, though it certainly doesn't reach the heights of "State Of Shock" by any measure. The albums final single, "Body", is pretty much fluff, but it's enjoyable fluff. For me, the rest of the album is forgettable, but it has been screaming for a good remastering since day 1 and the 2021 digital delivers exactly what's been needed. The sound is nicely balanced, with a much needed boost in the low end, and all tracks are louder but not overly compressed. The inclusion of all the extra single mixes is a welcome surprise! The only thing better than "State Of Shock" is 14.5 more minutes of "State Of Shock"!!! -

Hi the classic version without sticker + red and Green -
Edited one year agoAlbum Revolution #4:
This is where everything changed and not all good in my opinion....
First, think about it, this is after the "Michael Jackson" takeover with one of the best albums EVER in "Thriller", so it seems like "Michael" was coaxed into doing "Victory"....Second, after reading the liner notes of the album, I realized that instead of the album being Produced collectively, they Produced these songs individually...It was ok though, because it is still a classic album, and It did have the return of "Jermaine" to the group, without "Randy" having to leave.......
"State Of Shock", the first single, featuring "Mick Jagger" from "The Rolling Stones", was ok, but it was more of a "Michael" record than a "Jacksons" song....
"Torture", the 1st Crown Jewel, was much better to me....Even though it was produced by "Jackie", it sounded more "Jacksons"....It also had the classic trade off vocals between "Jermaine" and "Michael"....That was very smart, because, even though he wasn't more popular than "Michael", "Jermaine" had a very successful solo career, and at this point he was extremely popular as well.....
"Be Not Always" had "Michael" giving one of his usual emotional vocal performances....
The 2nd Crown Jewel, "Body", finally gives "Marlon" the vocal standout performance I'm sure he craved...It also set up a chance for him to get a record deal down the line....
The Super Crown Jewel, and my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE on the album is "One More Chance", Produced and Performed by "Randy"....Man!!! That song right there was his crowning achievement, even to the point that Baby Sister "Janet" remade it years later....
This would end the Album Revolution, but to me, and more importantly, the demise of the group with "Michael" leaving to continue to conquer the Music world....Whatever the effect though, no matter what, the legacy of "The Jacksons" is sealed!!!!!! -

They did a great job beefing up the bass and levels. Long awaited. -

This copy of the album contains the original mix of Torture (without Jackie's ad libs). Sounds great. -
Edited 4 years agoI've been playing all my Jackson 5 and Jacksons albums and thinking J5 don't have any bad albums till I played Victory. There is no real dance songs no songs that makes you hear the magic. State Of Shock is the best song with Mick Jagger that tells you a lot. Saving grace is the of Toto are the musicians. 1.5 Stars.

You can call it the worst of the Jacksons, even the artwork is far from being acceptable. -
referencing Victory (LP, Album, Reissue, Stereo) 450450 1
This is a re-issue that came out at some point after 1986, as this pressing has the mid-80s UK grey epic label the record. It's unknown why the dove-cover was brought back for this release, however it sure isn't rare. Don't pay much for this, it's not worth it. -
