Couple more you can add:
Zomba Records Australia Pty Ltd. (possible dupe of Zomba Records Australia Ltd)
Looking good though! Pretty cool idea to have one list with all the major Aussie companies on it. :) -

Just a note on:

Universal Music Australia, who's owner/Parent Label (?) now is the Company Universal Music Australia Pty Ltd
Universal Music Australia is a label brand only. Even on releases that state "Marketed in Australasia by Universal Music Australia" or whatever, it's actually a direct reference to the company, Universal Music Australia Pty Ltd. Perhaps if we ever get a LNV/CNV function we'll be able to clean up those two pages and move the company tags all over to Universal Music Australia Pty Ltd. :) -
Show this post
yeah, I know, but the current profile page is all I'm basically abbreviating the key bits of, over to this. If I ever notice it changing, I'll adapt it easy enough. I personally think all 'Universal Music Australia' credited in a company role context for Aussie releases, should just all go to the actual company rather than using the Label as a company credit role. -
Show this post
perhaps the Parent "Label" of Central Station (post-March 2009) should perhaps actually be the company? But then, how does one list the former "Label" or "Company" ownber of the Label Central Station? Can it be crossed out like band who've left the band? -

Can it be crossed out like band who've left the band?
Nope, not possible. It would be great if we could do that actually, or somehow be able to form past label/company trees for reference or something like that.
And yeah, I'd be happy to see Central Station moved over to the company page. -

ok, well I changed the Parent Label over the Universal company now for Central Station. This is right, isn't it? -

Yep, looks good. Maybe this info could now be changed a bit too:

(asked as of June 2103 - keeps thread alive I think- not sure how much more can fit in edits onto the text box, though). I'm on uni-b/n-semesters' break, so may have a little time to fiddle around with it for a month or so -

thanks Cowbellistan. But I have run into a limitation on how much I can keep inserting into the text box that contains the list here. I can't seem to add anymore in now without random, giant slabs being deleted :(
I think if there ever develops way more, I or someone else would have to start another list! (although I do wonder if I could just keep overwriting my 2nd text box and continue on from there?? It was edited out by me already anyways.) -

Hey Skinny I have a question on a Festival Topic. Probably been talked about endlessly but here we go (again) I have had a couple of early releases lately which state "Manufactured by Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia and New Zealand" originally this did not exist so I had been trying to split these into two manufacturing credits using
Festival Records Pty. Ltd. for the Oz side &
Festival Records (NZ) Ltd. for the NZ side of the equation
I did not want to proliferate the identities.
Well it now exists as
Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia and New Zealand
as well as
Festival Records Pty. Ltd Australia & Festival Records (NZ) Ltd.
Both of which appear on various releases.
I am adding a new release which uses Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia and New Zealand as a manufacturing credit should we be using this credit? If so I will have to go back and clean up some of my previous releases.
I cannot this discussion topic but hopefully you can :)
Cheers

G'day Steve (Bluroo ^^), and thanks Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia and New Zealand") by re-doing the LCCNs to use same LCCN tags (eg. use the "Manufactured By" tag twice for each version of the companies), ie going to the both separate companies.
That it exists again once more now I've relented from being so diligent in patrolling this sort of thing (here it is again, Festival Records (NZ) Ltd., then perhaps we would be entitled to go ahead and edit releases to have all three for various LCCN credits (eg. Manufactured By used to three different companies???!) -
Show this post
I've gone ahead and moved one release, left the sub that re-created it with redirectional comment to point to this issue for discussion, and re-did the do not use profile now on Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia and New Zealand (now we have that useful "do not use" feature) -
Show this post
I notice now that there's been the unnecessarily created Festival Records Pty. Ltd. is already sufficient referring to the same thing. There are now lots of subs been added to it, though (not just by the creator of this variant form of the Festival company, but now used by many other s too).
These are examples of how incorrectly Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia is being used:
-- Blackfeather - At The Mountains Of Madness (dates put in as cat#s too)
-- Patti Smith Group - Wave (again, dates put in cat# field incorrectly too)
This one, Festival Records Pty. Ltd.
Incidentally, it also raises the issue about Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia and New Zealand isn't it? Where the issue was resolved with a re-directional profile and a shift of a sub or two (yet to be completed).
Part of me kind of accepts the idea that perhaps we can have, for Discog's purposes only (NB: not as an actual legitimation of a company as it was never formally as so), the Festival Records Pty. Ltd Australia & Festival Records (NZ) Ltd.
??
Or should it similarly also just simply go the way of Festival Records Pty. Ltd Australia & Festival Records (NZ) Ltd., which currently features the profile (that I did):
"DO NOT USE. Please use the separate companies Festival Records (NZ) Ltd. for whatever credit role they are attributed with (when releases use the abbreviated form of referencing both companies at once by saying "Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia and New Zealand")."
??
This one, Festival Records Pty. Ltd Australia & Festival Records (NZ) Ltd. (when perhaps we should be splitting - which is the key issue here I think).
eg.
-- The Saints (2) - Prodigal Son (which also leads to the proposition that perhaps it should be country of release as "Australia & New Zealand" if the companies end up actually split up. But this release perhaps does provides some sort of justification of keeping this 'merged" company format for use in the LCCNs after all ??)
What do you think?
As for Festival Records Pty. Ltd, to which "Festival Records Pty. Ltd. Australia" as a credit attribution clearly refers.
Is it worth opening up a proper forum topic about it to move the lot? To delete the usage of this variant form of the long existing two companies (identified long ago as separate companies in the Festival Records stable):
* Festival Records Pty. Ltd.
* Festival Records (NZ) Ltd.
Thoughts? (think, given all the existing links in here, I'll just copy paste this out into a forum topic!!) -

Another question about an entity that should be common but does not exist on Discogs so there must be a story behind this one as well. I am trying to add a Chocolate Starfish 2 CD version of their self titled album and I have run across this
℗ 1994 EMI Records Australasia
© 1994 EMI Records Australasia
the closest entity available is EMI Records Australia. I am reluctant to create a new EMI identity until I have determined the history of this story. I have not submitted this release yet as I am still working on it.
For now I will use the Australian entity and put the correction (as on release) in the release notes until I hear a story.??
Cheers -

This release has different info than quoted above
Rear Inlay:
℗ 1994 EMI Records Australasia
© 1994 EMI Records Australasia
Disc 1 & Disc 2:
℗ 1994 EMI Records Australia
© 1994 EMI Records Australia
So I am going to ignore the Australasia and use Australia with a note about the conflicting info in the Release Notes.
I recon that will work.

Hey Bluroo, how are you?
I've been thinking about this previous issue discussed ^^ and I've been thinking that perhaps there really should be created a new EMI Records Australasia (label-creation as company) because just maybe by the mid-90s, EMI's EMI Records Australia got a proper name-change extension into reflecting/encoming NZ and wherever else Australasia refers to when its used in relation to record companies?
Might well be worth creating on your Chocolate Starfish sub?
I'd take a punt the old EMI Records Australia probably had its associated releases turn up also for distribution in NZ, but can't know for sure. but maybe they did actually change the name in relation to some sort of trans-Tasman business expansion changes or something (?? Maybe company cross-country consolidations /downsizing/workforce sackings/reductions/business rationalizations or some such thing?), hence it printed as to so on your 1994 release? -

Hi Skinny, Things are good in Adelaide. Been busy using the great Autumn weather outdoors. :) I have been thinking and this is the only EMI Records Australasia that I own and it also has the confusing EMI Records Australia as well?! So I was thinking that I would wait to see if another one of these pops up and then I will create this new entity unless someone finds one first. It could just be a Typo on this particular release
I have 1150 CD's and this is the only one? Searched my Music Collectorz.
As an aside I saw a "Made by Disctronics" release the other day and it was Made by PMI on the matrix. A bit of lazy production, same factory. I did not buy this release.
Cheers

G'day Steve,
I guess you're right then, especially if there's just that one with both on it.
Re: Disctronics, I think from hazy memory I too have seen something that confused me about the Disctronics / PMI thing too but can't recall it for sure. It could well be Glass mastered at Disctronics and duplication handled by PMI or some such combo of production effort in the stages of manufacture. Or even that maybe they u8sed "pre-printed" old stuff after a company-change or something? -
Bluroo edited over 11 years ago
Hi All, It has been drawn to my attention by Craig (aka craigandkim) that the newish entity Disctronics Australia is becoming a Dogs Breakfast already and there are only a few release (relatively) This entity seemed an elegant way of entering some early Disctronics (Australia, Limited) releases without having them swallowed by the parent company (Disctronics, UK). Craig has submitted a few releases that actually state Disctronics Australia on the Matrix. I do not own any of these but they are out there. I myself have used this entity when the Matrix is just junk like CD23895 or similar and the Cd label States Made in Australia by Disctronics. But others are using this even when it states Disctronics B on the Matrix and many use this entity with no reason why and limited or no scans. It seems to me this is one of those generic entities that the lazy find on their first search and they use it straight away.
Disctronics Australia, Limited & Disctronics Limited are valid holding company names as searches on Google easily prove. The fact that Disctronics themselves shortened the name on some of the earlier releases to Disctronics Australia does not help at all.
So the big Questions start here:-
What do we do with the entities Disctronics Australia, Disctronics Limited and Disctronics B?
More to the point do we keep Disctronics Australia and what do we do about guide lines for the entities that we keep?
How strict can the guide lines be?
Point (1)
Disctronics Limited has a statement:-
Releases that include DISCTRONICS B in the CD-matrix should be listed as Disctronics B, otherwise should be listed as Disctronics!!
I think what is missing here is an initial statement that Disctronics Limited is a Company name and should only be used where it is stated on the release e.g. "Made In Australia by Disctronics Limited" which should be a credit Produced For Disctronics Limited. Note this does not preclude the credit Made By Disctronics B on the same release is so stated on the Matrix. If there is no specific other Made By statement on the release then Made By Disctronics Limited is acceptable.
This would create an entity profile like this:-
"Disctronics Limited
Disctronics Limited is a Company name and should only be used where it is stated on the release e.g. "Made In Australia by Disctronics Limited" which should be a credit Produced For Disctronics Limited. Note this does not preclude the credit Made By Disctronics B on the same release if it is so stated in the Matrix. If there is no specific other Made By statement on the release then Made By Disctronics Limited is also acceptable.
Releases that include DISCTRONICS B in the CD-matrix should be listed as Disctronics B, otherwise should be listed as Disctronics!!"
Is this to difficult for Discoggers to understand and use? The second paragraph may need some finessing as it seems very cut and dry as you can have a Made By Disctronics Credit when its all too vague but also Produced for Disctronics Limited when the label is not.
Point (2)
Disctronics B is well noted in its profile and should be very self explanatory to most. i.e. only use if its there in the Matrix.
Point (3)
Disctronics Australia.
Do we get rid of this one or do we keep it and create some strict profile guide line??
If we do keep this entity then we need to specify how to use this entity on the Disctronics Limited profile as well or else many Australian releases will be lost to the Disctronics parent.
Thoughts please. -
Show this post
Disctronics Australia.
Do we get rid of this one or do we keep it and create some strict profile guide line??
I'd think since it has come into such play, perhaps, as you've suggested in Point (3), perhaps it might be simpler to just keep it and then just fiddle around with how to separate the complications of when to use it & when to ditch it in preference for the more exacting Disctronics Limited one (not the UK thing either, but probably should be made into Disctronics Limited (2) ( since long ago it seemed accepted, due to volume of releases, I think, that Disctronics Limited alone became the UK one).
But I've kind of given up on the complexity of Disctronics these days as have wound down a lot of editing I'm afraid - been more collecting more junk which I'll get back to entering into the DB one of these days. Gotta bit of a back-log now!
Disctronics Limited doesn't have a profile that makes much sense, so I guess that's why lots of anything can easily just end up there. But maybe this is deliberate so it remains a widely used "bunch" of releases that state such a thing - even though obviously, Australian ones would be made somewhere in the Australian factories if the made by thing is to go by??
Overall, I'm happy with what you propose about qualifying "Disctronics Limited" and perhaps let Disctronics Australian run till others can qualify it better. It might be the same thing being referred to as Disctronics B but I guess we can't know for sure given lack of clear info Disctronics seem to have about themselves in various company manifestations and plants. -

Skinny,
firstly, wow...how much effort and time have you devoted to this thread? Absolutely great effort.
Secondly, my main reason for persisting with this....I want to keep the AUS Disctronics releases as separate as far as possible from the other Disctronics Co. entries.
So in the Disctronics Australia profile maybe we could have a selection of rules like the other company entries? My biggest bug bear is using "Disctronics Australia" when there is nothing written on the CD corresponding to that - verbatim.
We have Made in Australia by Disctronics Limited, Made in Australia by Disctronics, etc but I have yet to see a CD label with Made by "Disctronics Australia". Have you seen any?
I have however two CD's in my possession which I have posted containing "Disctronics Australia" in the matrix. How many other subs in "Disctronics Australia" contain images validating this entity?
Thoughts?
Cheers

Just added another Disctronics Australia- Richard Clapton - The Great Escape, so it would seem there are a few discs out there now which would lend weight to having a "Disctronics Australia"- but only if written verbatim in the matrix. -

Hi craigandkim.
Thank you for your ^^ posts. I'm not really an expert on Disctronics but used to have an interest in following through what to do with it. Glad to see the entity Disctronics Australia now operates (if that's ok with others as it seems to be the case these days - & only if written out in full like that in the matrix of CDs). I don't know but would suspect that perhaps this was some sort of late 80s or early nineties thing perhaps they did in the matrices of some few CDs. I'm not particularly active these days unfortunately though. I can't add anymore to the things in my list, presented above at start of this thread, because the textbox won't accommodate anymore so I tend to leave it alone these days as it stands last updated back in June 2014 (this yr). The same thing is replicated for quicker webpage loads over here, also -> http://discogs.descargarpelis.net/lists/Favorite-Companies/104662 -

thank you force88, I added it into both versions of this list now (but really, this list is to associate the companies that associate directly to their labels, as they get created within Discogs, eg. Festival Records Pty. Ltd., the "associated" company version, as well as more & numerous other "associated" Festival company versions.
That's the purpose of what I made this list for, really.
But I've put it in, so thank you very much for your bringing it to attention, and if there ever becomes an associated company to your label, (within Discogs as an LCCN credit/weblinking thingy, eg. "We Play! Records Pty. Ltd."), do please let me know to then associate the two here within this list, like there is with other Labels/Campanies.
Cheers & thanks though, mate :) -

Hello Guys,
You may have noticed I have run with updating our Australian Disctronics sites...
I have done extensive research and found much of the same info as put forward in many of the older forums- however I have also found some new info contained in a final report from a Royal Commission into Tricontinental group of companies which substantially financed Quattro group (Disctronics, Pro-Image & Quattro) and other interesting sites and snippets.
We know Disctronics Ltd purchased 3x USA plants (2 from Quixote- Disctec in Southwater UK in 1987.
There was actually a Disctronics Australia Ltd- a holding company involved in the purchase of the 2 Laservideo plants
I do not have the smoking gun (yet)- however I strongly believe that Disctronics Limited refinancing their debt.
More to follow...

OK, as mentioned by Bluroo sometime ago "Disctronics Australia Limited" was an actual holding company in the Disctronics group. "Disctronics Australia Limited" appears to be a private company as it was never listed on the ASX and seems to actually pre-date Disctronics Limited.
From the Royal Commission report:
"Between January 1986 and March 1989 Tricontinental provided facilities to three companies in the Quatro Group, namely Quatro Limited ('Quatro'), Disctronics Australia Limited ('Disctronics') and Pro-image Limited ('Pro-image'). Quatro and Pro-image were public companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange ('ASX'). Disctronics was not listed on the ASX although in mid-1988 Disctronics Limited (formerly known as BGL International Limited) ('Disctronics Ltd) was listed on the ASX."
The major shareholders of Quatro were private companies controlled by its directors, including Mr John Kavanagh and Mr Kevin Donovan. In June 1986, Quatro held approximately 40% of the shares in Pro-image and Disctronics and, in August 1986, 43.5% of the shares in Whitehall."
"Disctronics was essentially a t venture, formed in January 1986, between Quatro and Pro-image to build and operate a compact disc manufacturing plant in Australia. Pro-image was a video and broadcasting company which held the remaining 60% of the shares in Disctronics."
Here when mentioning "Disctronics" the report is referring to "Disctronics Australia Limited" which obviously pre-dates Disctronics Limited and this is why I believe they were the first pressings.
Another fact is not one of the Disctronics Australia disc's contains the statement "Made in Australia by Disctronics Limited".
PS: I'm thinking that the company name of Disctronics Limited came into being possibly sometime in mid to late 87 as the trademark was ed by Disctronics Limited on the 28/10/1987. -

Good work Craig. Homing in on the trail of company names. My reading agrees that Disctronics Limited in its final iteration tried to expand too quickly and cash flow just did not keep up. Always a recipe for a fall from grace. -

Why is it that Disctronics profile does not have any history about its origins? Other than the fact it was founded in 1987.
There is a comment in the editing history "This IS A UK COMPANY. All the rest pages are the _arms_ of this company. There is no UK arm, since it's the HQ." which suggests that this entity is UK based.
The company may be Disctronics Manufacturing UK Ltd but the plant was purchased from Disctronics profile is Disctronics Australia Limited?
Is it time to launch the final forum concerning the origins of Disctronics CD manufacturing?
Regards

Well Craig I am glad to see the differentiation between these two entities this data needs to be added to the company profiles and used by one and all appropriately. Starts to make sense of the Matrix data we have been seeing. -

Nice list skinny! My local haunt Tym Records (2) keeps going from strength to strength and doesn't look like running out of steam any time soon (primarily due to the tireless Tim and the connections he made while guitar teching for some of the biggest name in alt music).
He mainly does vinyl runs of 200 (or maybe 400 split across a couple of colours), so might be smaller than most of the independents on the list, but he's started handling album releases for bands like Hydromedusa, so those runs are now selling out in hours and being repressed (with the represses again lasting less than a day). So small operation on a fairly steep trajectory.
Another good indie is Poison City Records -

Guys, I have started editing some of the smaller Disctronics subsidiaries and related entities. I hope the majority don't mind, but something needed to be done to bring them into alignment. I am going to also re-edit Disctronics Limited (it will be updated again soon).
The biggest problem will be with Disctronics, UK.
I will draft the edit for this in http://discogs.descargarpelis.net/forum/thread/413800#3832073 and people can have a discussion about the way forward.
Hope these edits haven't broken any Discogs protocols?
Cheers -
