J.R. Monterose (not to be confused with tenorsaxophonist Jack Montrose), worked with Buddy Rich (1952), Claude Thornhill, Teddy Charles, Jon Eardley, Charles Mingus (1956 on "Pithecanthropus Erectus") and Kenny Dorham, among others.
