Founded in 1989 as a duo by Es Reiten Die Toten So Schnell" (1991), "Rufus" (1992), and "Till Time And Times Are Done" (1992)), left Sopor Aeternus, and it became a solo project of Varney Cantodea, who is started using pseudonym Anna-Varney Cantodea since 1997.

Sopor Aeternus means "eternal sleep" in Latin.
